Review Summary:

If you want a system that will provide great sound for the TV and perform well on music, then the Sony HT-XT3 is probably one of the best products that you can buy. You get high-quality sound, a system that is expandable and a wide-range of options for listening to music. When it comes to the overall scope of the capabilities and the sound quality, there are few systems that offer a comparable value.

The Sony HT-XT3 sound base provides solid performance across a range of different functions. For improving the sound of your TV, this system can stand against many of the best on the current market and for music, this one offers audio that few sound bars can compete with. Great sound, a diverse range of features and a system that is very easy to use.

For the hardware, this system comes as an all in one unit. You have a pair of 2-way drives that offer a nice range of sound for the 2-channel stereo and the sound base comes with dual-subwoofers for the low-end. It’s a great set up for range and depth and all of the components blend together seamlessly for a very impressive audio experience.

Sony has also equipped this unit with a nice range of sound processing capabilities. The user gets a good virtual surround sound effect that has a very wide field of operation. The sound for movies and TV shows will be immersive and with the Clear Voice technology, you can hear the dialogue easily even when there is interference from things like sound effects and music. Along with this and a whole host of other audio effects, this system has hi-res playback for music. This feature restores much of what is lost in the compression of audio files to reproduce music tracks in a way that is more faithful to the studio sound.

When it comes to installing and getting this system set up, the HT-XT3 scores well. You can connect through the ARC-enabled HDMI for the most convenient and user-friendly set up or you have the option of connecting the system through and optical cable. The sound performance is basically the same through these two options, but connecting through the optical cable will limit the use of some of the features. Additionally, there are three HDMI inputs, so you can use the system as the switching hub for components like gaming systems and DVD players.

See what buyers are saying about this soundbase system – most praise the sound quality but some say it’s a bit chunky, and the software could use some tweaks. Read more…

The HT-XT3 also comes with some nice options for playing music and accessing content. You have Bluetooth for streaming music from mobile devices and the sound base could be connected to the home network to allow access to all of the music files on your network. Along with this, connecting to the network also makes it possible to use some of the music services like Spotify and Google Cast, both of which are built-in to the device.

Expandability is another feature that comes with this sound system. Consumers can buy a set of Sony wireless speakers to convert this unit into a multi-room music player. Place speakers anywhere in the home and control the options and playback by using the Sony Song Pal app. It is a nice additional feature for people that think they might want to do more than just use this system for watching TV.
